I got sick of my ProjectMix I/O always crashing my mac, so I replaced it with 2 of these Motu 896mk3's. I'm new to using Motu, but this product rocks. It's better than a control surface because you can program your settings into it before even recording in Logic and Pro tools. With the processing done on the Motu, you can rely on just recording directly without having to go through the headaches of setting up Logic, etc. motu also ships their own audio recoring software for free which is also multi-track and very well equipped. You can't go wrong with this. ADAT IN/OUT, Firewire chaining, World Clock features, front display input / output meters, all this for less than $1000. Very nice! I now own 3 of these + the Motu 8 firewire for additional inputs. I'm in heaven. The output is very clean.

Just received my MOTU Track 16 and it sounds amazing. Had a little hiccup in that I did not do a fresh restart and power up after installing all the drivers and software that came with MOTU. There was a bit of noise that I was hearing when I used the Mac Book Pro. That has gone completely away after doing a restart and powering up the MOTU Track 16. I have let a few friends hear it and they actually thought it sounder better than the others out there that look a little like the same. One even compared the sound to the Ensemble. I am able to use the Firewire on both my Mac Book Pro and Mac Pro running Pro Tools 9.0.6 with no issues. I am very happy with the MOTU Track 16 it sounds great and is working rock solid. I like how the Cue Mix software works and can see using this live as well. The DSP works great and "0" LATENCY with reverb and eq on. The Mic pres sounded good I used them with a DPA 4099G mic, Shure KSM 141 and CAD Triton Tube. all sounded good and warm with my use which is a Flamenco Guitar. The Led's are bright and easy to see even not close to Track 16. If you need a small unit that has the ability to be expandable like with MOTU 8 Mic Pre (light pipe) and need more than 2 channels this is worth a close look. The folks at MOTU make rock solid drivers, software and hardware. This unit Rocks Thanks MOTU

I wanted to add a few words since I just received my micro book II today.

I'm only using Mac's. Can't speak to any issues on PC's.

I am not sure why others are having some issues....but for me it was plug and play, including Garageband. Everything works fine and imo is impressive for a bus powered interface, especially at this price point.

As a reference point I have a relatively fair idea of good sounding gear. I have Metric Halo interfaces in racks and outboard transformer based pres...And I have spent time around a lot of great analog gear in studio.

The Motu is actually quite fine sounding....surprisingly so. Not a ton of gain on the built-in pre...but still a real nice piece of kit. Without further testing I don't have much else to say as of yet, but thought it might be helpful to those reading these reviews and only seeing an issue with the phones output.

Having owned this device for 3 years now (wow, time flies!) I can say with a fair amount of certainty that this is a solid product. It has basically been on for 3 years without issue. During my initial setup of the device in 2010, things weren't very smooth (I recall having to install drivers and connect the device in a specific order, or Windows botched the driver install) but I just built a new PC and had no troubles this time around. I downloaded the latest version of the "All In One" driver/software combo from MOTU, installed it, fired up the device and it just worked straight away (via Firewire). I haven't beat on it with my DAW yet (still using Cubase) but some basic tests showed it was working just fine.

If you need a compact, portable device that works with both OSX and Windows 7 (x64) this is probably a good choice!

I have yet to really dive into this interface as I just got it, but I can make some 'out of the box' comments about it in the meantime.

I upgraded to this interface from a Tascam FW1082 which i LOVED, but I wanted to be more mobile with my set up. Also, my newer Macs I own do not have firewire ports, and to be honest, every experience I ever had with firewire (wether an interface or hard drive) has always been unreliable at some point, causing issues with the OS (MAC and Windows). And USB, in my experience, was even worse than that (especially when you have a lot of other USB devices attached). So I figured I would give thunderbolt a try.

Though, not plug and go...It was pretty easy to get up and running to my iMac. I went to Motu's website and downloaded their most current drivers, installed, and was up and running in no time. Once installed the mac recognized it pretty easily. You can go into the MAC settings and choose to have your system volume controlled independently or via the volume controls on your keyboard.

Im connected through a thunderbolt connection. The latency seemed pretty decent for my short test did using the front IN ports from my DJ mixer into Logic X. Recorded a short clip and the sound transfer was clean.

I had a bit of trouble with figuring out the headphone ports. I have to read up a little more on how to customize them. The top port seems to be a direct / master out. The second port seems to be a mirror or something needing to be routed because I could not get this working independently as of yet. I wish it was set up as independent out of the box, but it's nice to know it offers some customization. 1 thing I do not like about the headphone port and HOPE is customizable, is the volume knob control.

The Audio Express has an incredible quality, great hardware controls and software mixer and analysis tools...... I really recomend it..... the only thing is.... if you are expecting to have 3 analog stereo inputs you will be disappointed since one of the ins and one of the outs is spdif digital

It doesn't have 6x6 Analog in/outs but ONLY 4 ANALOG INPUTS AND 4 ANALOG OUTPUTS
